Hammond <\/strong>establece que \u201cLa Ingenier\u00eda Industrial abarca el dise\u00f1o, la mejora e instalaci\u00f3n de sistemas integrados de hombre, materiales y equipo. Con sus conocimientos especializados y el dominio de las ciencias matem\u00e1ticas, f\u00edsicas y sociales, juntamente con los principios y m\u00e9todos del dise\u00f1o y an\u00e1lisis de ingenier\u00eda, permite predecir, especificar y evaluar los resultados a obtener de tales sistemas\u201d, tiene como objetivo \u201cdirigir su actuaci\u00f3n en la planeaci\u00f3n ejecutiva, estrat\u00e9gica y t\u00e1ctica en ingenier\u00eda y tecnolog\u00eda; que tiene el prop\u00f3sito de analizar, dise\u00f1ar y mejorar sistemas industriales, de evaluar su comportamiento, as\u00ed como de tomar decisiones mediante la aplicaci\u00f3n de teor\u00edas matem\u00e1ticas y estad\u00edsticas, de metodolog\u00edas de integraci\u00f3n de empresas y simulaci\u00f3n, as\u00ed como de los m\u00e9todos de an\u00e1lisis y dise\u00f1o de la ingenier\u00eda y de las ciencias sociales\u201d. (Asociaci\u00f3n Colombiana de Facultades de Ingenier\u00eda, 1996).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">De acuerdo a estas definiciones, el ingeniero industrial se involucra en diferentes \u00e1reas del conocimiento, lo cual le permite desarrollar su desempe\u00f1o en campos como: las finanzas, la gesti\u00f3n empresarial, la mercadotecnia y la administraci\u00f3n de los sistemas de producci\u00f3n de bienes y servicios, por eso se considera que un ingeniero industrial debe contar con habilidades y aptitudes en los siguientes aspectos:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Conocimientos amplios de las ciencias b\u00e1sicas y de la ingenier\u00eda, que le permitan resolver problemas de diferente \u00edndole.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Flexibilidad y facilidad de adaptaci\u00f3n a los cambios, de forma que pueda sin dificultad apropiarse de los avances de la ciencia y la tecnolog\u00eda.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mentalidad empresarial que oriente su labor profesional para crear su propio negocio.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Vocaci\u00f3n de l\u00edder con un alto compromiso y sentido social.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Conciencia del buen aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales y de cuidado del medio ambiente.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Manejo de t\u00e9cnicas para la Gesti\u00f3n de Operaciones y la Producci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Capacidad para el dise\u00f1o de plantas de producci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Este tipo de ingenier\u00eda es de gran importancia para las empresas, ya que la producci\u00f3n en sectores como la manufactura y servicio requieren constantemente de cambios y procesos simples, ya sea para ahorrar tiempo, crear mejoras o soluciones a los problemas de producci\u00f3n.
